Kia is the Korean Volvo.

I mean, both had relatively negative reputations in the past, which have been hard to throw away, yet both make rather sensible, competent, stylish, and extremely comfortable entry level luxury cars.

I also can’t be the only one who see’s a bit of XC90 in the new Sorento.

What would that make Hyundai? (I cant not see Kia’s as cheap Hyundais. Hyundai Exec: “your budget for 2016 will be X. Kia, your budget will be X/4” Whether or not thats true? Meh.)

Volvo had a reputation for making boring, dull bricks that a geography teacher might drive. Kia had a reputation for making garbage.

I’d like to think of recent Hyundai as recent Ford. They had a reallllly bad 90’s-early 2000’s but recently decided they wanted to shed that reputation and get more consumer/enthusiast oriented instead of just worrying about profit margins.

Oh yeah, definite Audi. But consider that Subarus were boxy, famous for wagons, still push safety and family over sportiness and have a lineup that is almost entirely made of 4-cyl. AWD S60s drive like a WRX for grown-ups.

This reminds me that Volvo or Acura (preferably) should go standard AWD in order to catch the market in between Subie and Audi. Something similar happens where people buy Porsche 2-seaters then switch to BMWs for sedans and vice-versa.

Volvo’s worst vehicles were ones that were actually other brands’ vehicles (e.g. Mitsubishi like the first S/V40) with Volvo badges and fonts around the interior.

I think the design similarity is purely coincidental but have had people, mostly at night, ask me how I liked my Saab, while driving a dark coloured Elantra of the 2002-2006 era.
